Don’t rush to wash the air fryer! Experts warn that many people forget SOPs, posing security risks

Air fryers have become the first choice for many families in recent years for healthy cooking due to their easy operation and low cooking oil. However, British electrical safety charity Electrical Safety First warns that air fryers may cause electric shock or fire risks if not cleaned properly. The organization pointed out that high temperature and current remain inside the air fryer after use. If it is cleaned immediately or soaked in water, water vapor may penetrate into the circuit and cause a short circuit, or even cause the equipment to be scrapped.

"Wait 30 minutes" before cleaning. Do not immerse the entire air fryer in water.

Experts recommend that after each use of the air fryer, you should unplug it and let it sit for at least 30 minutes to ensure it is completely cool before cleaning.

When cleaning, only remove the movable parts such as the inner pot, frying basket, and filter. Clean them with warm water and neutral detergent, and then wipe them gently with a soft sponge to avoid scratching the non-stick coating.

The main unit can only be wiped with a damp cloth and must not be put into water. If you encounter stubborn scorch, you can mix baking soda and water into a paste, apply it and let it sit for 20 minutes, then gently brush it with an old toothbrush to remove it.

Correct cleaning steps

According to the recommendations of "BBC Good Food", the safe and effective cleaning methods are as follows:

1. Unplug and confirm complete cooling.

2. Remove the movable parts and clean them separately.

3. Use warm water + dishwashing detergent to clean, avoid using rough brushes.

4. If there is stubborn dirt, use baking soda paste solution to treat it.

5. Rinse and place in the shade to dry. Keep dry before assembling back into the body.

Pay attention to these safety rules when using an air fryer

Electrical Safety First also reminds the public that in addition to cleaning, the following principles should be followed when using an air fryer. If you smell an abnormal burning smell (non-food smell), you should shut down the machine immediately and contact the manufacturer for maintenance; do not pour cooking oil to avoid the risk of high temperatures, and pay attention to hot air leakage, and keep a safe distance when cooking; the wire should be kept away from high-temperature surfaces, and be sure to unplug it after use; do not put too much food in, and it is recommended not to exceed two-thirds of the pot's capacity. Finally, stay safe by avoiding leaving the site while cooking.

Experts remind: Only by using it safely can you enjoy delicious food with peace of mind.

The air fryer does make cooking more convenient, less oily and healthier, but it is still a high-temperature appliance. Experts call for regular inspections of wiring, maintaining a dry environment, and following correct cleaning and operating methods to truly achieve a "healthy and secure" kitchen life.
