According to previous reports, Newcastle's 80 million euro offer Ekitic was rejected by Frankfurt, but they then expressed their intention to sign the player for a total price of 100 million euros.
Ekitic made 33 appearances in the Bundesliga for Frankfurt last season, contributing 15 goals and 8 assists. The current German turnover price is 75 million euros.
