Former Arsenal youth training player Billy Vega was injured in a game when he hit the cement wall on the sidelines in order to save the ball during the game. The treatment was ineffective. He was only 21 years old.

TA reported that after the incident, the FA announced that it would "exactly review", and the Professional Football Players Association called for a "formal investigation", and relevant British government departments have also intervened.

In grief, people who have coached and worked with me remember Vega. His former coaches at Arsenal and Derby County described him as “the least worrying player”, “an excellent role model for everyone” and a “polite, never complaining” young man.

His agent revealed that despite repeated setbacks from injuries at the time, Arsenal still provided him with a contract for his outstanding professional attitude and role model.
