Manchester United defender Dogu shared the special meaning behind his name in an interview. He revealed that his middle name, Shinazak Pere, means "God responds to prayer" in Nigeria Ibo language, and this name carries the expectations and blessings of his parents.
What does your middle name "Sinazak Pere" mean?
He explained: "'Shinazak Pere' means 'God responds to prayer'. This is the name given to me by my parents when I was born."
What does faith mean to you?
"This means a lot to me, it has always been an important part of my family life and I. I have been praying since I was a kid and have been persisting."
"Family and community are an integral part of my growing up in Denmark, so it's nice to work hard here to maintain that too. If there is no game, I'll come to this church for praying on Sundays when I have time; I'll come here as much as I can."
Is faith helpful to you on the court?
"I don't know if it will give an advantage on the court. But it's about always keeping faith and believing that God has plans for me and for my career."
Talk about the decision to join Manchester United
"Manchester United is a big club, and I know it will be a great opportunity. I always think that God has arrangements for everything. In fact, in January only Manchester United is interested in me, which for me means I have to come here."
How did you deal with the ups and downs of your career?
"I have experienced ups and downs. The key is to always believe in myself, believe that I can keep improving by creating highlights on the court, so it is to learn from my mistakes. It is about me always giving all of me and showing my best side."
