What should I do if a cat snores loudly? Cat feeding guide!

Cats also have many habits like humans, such as they sometimes snore. Generally speaking, a slight snoring sound is nothing serious. This is a normal breathing sound in the nasal cavity, but the snoring sound is loud and lasts for a long time. If you breathe abnormally, you may have some disease. So, there are two aspects that the owner needs to consider for this, is this because of the nose problem? Or is it because you are too fat?

There are many reasons for snoring, which may be due to obesity, or the occurrence of nose diseases such as paranormal cessation or viral rhinitis.

1. Obesity

Obesity is obvious and can be observed. For different breeds, the standard definition of obesity is also different, such as round and thick cats. Such as British shorthair cats (detailed introduction) and exotic shorthair cats. To determine whether this type of cat is obese, you can carefully observe the ratio of its head and belly. If you find that the cat's belly is wider than its head, please quickly lose weight to the cat, lower or standard, otherwise it will grow fatter.

Long-haired and hairy cats, such as Jinjira, Persian, and Himalayan cats. Even if the cats have a standard figure, their thick and thick hair will make them look fat. Therefore, it is important to determine whether this kind of cat is obese. You can observe the ratio of its head and belly when bathing the cat. If the belly is already very large and the width exceeds the head, it means that the cat is already very obese.

How to treat it?

If a cat is too fat, fat will accumulate in the upper respiratory tract, the air circulation channel will become narrower, and the respiratory mucosa will snore. Obese cats must lose weight, and the principles and methods of losing weight are similar to those of humans. Reduce calories and fat intake and promote the body's consumption of fat and calories. The most practical way to lose weight is to eat a reasonable diet and exercise.

2. Paranormal rhinitis

Avermal rhinitis in cats is also one of the causes. The paranormal cavity refers to the space that leads to the inside of the nasal cavity surrounded by bones. If this part becomes inflamed, the nose will easily be blocked, the pressure from the nasal cavity to resist the air will increase, and the tremor of the upper palate will cause snoring. The causes of paranormal inflammatory disease include viral respiratory diseases, bacterial infections, etc.

III. Viral respiratory diseases

Viral respiratory diseases include viral rhintracheitis, influenza virus infection, etc.

For viral rhinotracheitis, cats will experience severe sneezing symptoms 1 to 3 days after being infected, and then gradually become unstimulated, have fever, have severe appetite and do not even eat. The nose starts with clear nasal water, just like when a person catches a cold, and then gradually the nasal water becomes thicker and thicker like a snot; tears, the conjunctiva of the eye (i.e. the whites of the eye) become red and swollen, and the eyes are so swollen that the eyes cannot open. Some cats will also experience corneal ulcers; some cats will drool and have ulcers in their mouths; as the disease develops, symptoms of cough or even pneumonia will appear.

For cat flu, it is mainly manifested as abnormal secretions in the eyes, nose, and mouth (usually white thick or cyan thick, except for short-nose red tears and sesame paste), oral ulcers, red and swelling of the conjunctiva, and body temperature rise. At present, there are still no reliable common drugs to fight feline viral influenza, so doctors’ advice is often antibiotics and broad-spectrum antibacterials to achieve certain treatment goals and avoid long-term inflammation that can cause high fever and pneumonia to pose a life threat to the affected cat.

Home care for the affected cat is particularly important. Nasal congestion and oral ulcers will affect the food and drinking water of the affected cat, which will seriously lead to dehydration and further decrease in body resistance.

Bacterial infections can be prevented through sanitation management and improving the living environment. Pay great attention on weekdays. But when the purring suddenly becomes severe or breathing abnormally, it is an emergency. Take the cat to the hospital immediately.
