The Athletic reported that Morgan Rodgers suffered an ankle injury in the preseason in Aston Villa's 4-0 victory over Roma.

The England international made a substitute in the second half, but was forced to leave the field just four minutes later due to unstable landing. The team doctor team immediately conducted an emergency examination of his left ankle. Although further testing and short-term rest are still needed, the injury is not serious. Villa will face Newcastle at home in the first round of the Premier League on August 16, and Rodgers is expected to be on the roster.

Rodgers, 23, played a key role in the 2024-25 season, helping the team win sixth in the Premier League and reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League, contributing 14 goals and 16 assists in 54 games in various competitions. He also made his debut in the UEFA European League match in England's 3-0 victory over Greece in November last year, and has made 6 appearances for England so far.

According to The Athletic, Villa plans to provide him with a New Testament to match his core position. Premier League clubs such as Chelsea have expressed interest in it this summer. Rodgers joined in February last year with a basic transfer fee of 8 million pounds + 7 million surcharge, and has made 70 appearances for Villa so far.
