According to The Athletic, Aston Villa has reached an agreement in principle with team defender Cash on a new contract.

The report stated that the new contract will last until 2029 and includes an option to extend by 12 months. Cash's current contract expires in 2027, and his last contract extension was in April 2022.

The new contract is seen as rewarding the full-back's impressive recent form: Cash received plenty of praise for his pass assist for Buendia's winning goal against Tottenham on Sunday.

In addition, John McGinn is also close to signing a new contract. The Athletic reported in August that Villa were planning to enter contract negotiations with the midfielder.

The 28-year-old Cash played 38 times for Villa last season and continued to become the main player under coach Emery in the 25/26 season, starting all 11 games in the Premier League, Europa League and League Cup.

Emery said on Sunday: "He can now maintain stability for 90 minutes. Before, when he played consecutive games, he would struggle physically and get injured. But now he maintains very good health, no injuries, and in 90 minutes He remains stable. Now I no longer need to pay attention to him in the 70th and 80th minutes. It is excellent for him to get this kind of self-balance."

Cash has played 191 times for Villa since joining from Nottingham Forest in September 2020. Nottingham Forest explored a deal to re-sign Cash in August, but the proposal did not progress.

Cash has been with Villa for more than five years and has always been a reliable player for the club. Coach Emery firmly recognizes his ability. He currently plays as a deep right-back, which means he must form a central back three when in possession, which limits his offensive capabilities. The 28-year-old had to learn Emery's demands but earned the coach's trust in important games.

Despite interest from AC Milan in the summer, Emery wants Cash to stay and continue to be his first-choice right back. Cash is now entering the final two years of his current contract, so an extension makes sense for a player who remains an integral part of Villa's plans.
